Virginia Junior Science and Humanities Symposium
(United States Army Educational Outreach Program – AEOP)
My independent research develops a real-time ASL interpreter using computer vision and a CNN to translate hand gestures into text and speech with 85% accuracy on basic gestures. Despite challenges in low-light and complex backgrounds, the system demonstrates AI’s potential to enhance accessibility for deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals.

Presented my research at AEOP JSHS Regionals competition. My research presents a real-time ASL interpreter that uses computer vision and neural networks to bridge communication gaps for sign language users. A webcam captures hand gestures, which are processed by a CNN built with Python, OpenCV, TensorFlow, and MediaPipe, translating them into text and spoken language via a TTS system. Trained on an existing ASL dataset, the model achieved about 85% accuracy in recognizing basic gestures, though it struggled under low-light and complex background conditions. Real-time tests confirmed the feasibility of using AI for ASL translation, advancing accessibility for deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals. Future work will focus on expanding the dataset, enhancing model performance in diverse conditions, and integrating NLP for complex sentence translation.
Internship in Geo-Spatial Analysis
(Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology – IIST)
Internship focused on Geospatial Analysis using Google Earth Engine Code Editor to analyze and depict Washington DC growth over time. “The Washington DC Development and Expansion Visualization (Wash-DEV)” application is a powerful web-based tool designed to provide users with an in-depth understanding of Washington DC growth over time. By leveraging historical and modern geospatial data, Wash-Dev allows users to explore the 5 yearly expansion of Washington build-up areas. The application features an interactive map that displays distribution of built-up surfaces, expressed in square meters per 100m grid cell. Whether for educational purposes, urban planning or historical research, Wash-DEV serves as a comprehensive resource, offering a visual representation of how Washington DC area has evolved and expanded across different time periods.

In this 2024 summer, I had an incredible opportunity to intern at the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST). During my internship, I worked on an advanced Geospatial Analysis project using Google Earth Engine Code Editor and created an application Wash-DEV (“Washington Development and Expansion Visualization”) using Python that features an interactive map that displays distribution of built-up surfaces, expressed in square meters per 100 m grid cell. Whether for educational purposes, urban planning, or historical research, Wash-DEV serves as a comprehensive resource, offering a visual representation of how Washington DC has evolved and expanded across different time periods. This experience allowed me to dive deep into analyzing the growth of Washington DC over time. The hands-on experience helped me understand how to apply scientific methods and data to real-world problems, aligning perfectly with the research-oriented nature of SEAP.
MGTA- Python Programming
(George Mason University, Virginia)
Learnt the fundamentals of Python and computer programming. This class is for students who are interested learning coding for video games and beyond. The subjects taught will include basic control structures such as Boolean conditions, loops, and functions. More advanced topics include primitive python data structures such as using and manipulating lists, dictionaries, and creating a working game.

I began my journey into Python and computer programming by learning the fundamental concepts that are essential for any aspiring coder. During this introductory course, I mastered key control structures, such as Boolean conditions, loops, and functions, which form the backbone of many programming languages. As the course progressed, I delved into more advanced topics, including working with primitive Python data structures like lists and dictionaries, which are critical for organizing and manipulating data efficiently.
One of the highlights of the course was applying these skills to build a fully functional video game, giving me hands-on experience in translating theoretical concepts into a tangible project. This project reinforced my understanding of game logic, user interaction, and algorithm design, demonstrating how coding can be used creatively to bring ideas to life.
In addition to this foundational class, I also participated in a Python programming bootcamp hosted by George Mason University. This immersive program was not just about learning syntax or code but focused on using Python as a tool for problem-solving and innovation. Throughout the bootcamp, I worked on several challenging projects that required me to think critically and apply my coding knowledge to solve real-world engineering problems. From designing algorithms to optimizing performance, I learned how to approach complex challenges in a structured, logical manner.
This experience gave me a deeper appreciation for how technology can address real-world issues, and it significantly sharpened my problem-solving skills—an asset that is invaluable in any technology-driven field. These opportunities have equipped me with both the technical skills and the mindset necessary to tackle future projects and pursue advanced study in computer science and engineering.

I earned a certificate in Biomedical Engineering by gaining hands-on experience and practical skills in areas like constructing prosthetics and developing solutions for brain injuries. This course allowed me to immerse myself in the field of biomedical sciences, where I deepened my understanding through interactive activities and challenging projects.
One of the most rewarding experiences was designing and building prosthetics. This project gave me a unique opportunity to apply engineering principles directly to real-world medical challenges. It was truly fascinating to see theoretical concepts transform into tangible solutions that have the potential to improve people’s lives. Working through the process of designing a functional prosthetic, I gained insight into biomechanics, material science, and the intricacies of human anatomy—all critical aspects of biomedical engineering.
Additionally, I explored innovative solutions for brain injuries, which further broadened my perspective on the intersection of technology and medicine. These experiences not only enhanced my technical skills but also fueled my passion for the impact that engineering can have on healthcare. They inspired me to think critically about how I can contribute to the advancement of medical technology in the future.
